Going back to school is a stressful time for both parents and their children. The anticipation and preparation are often overwhelming. Luckily, we have a couple of tips that will help you feel confident through the process.

Keep Calm

According to the Child Mind Institute, “Anxious parents send anxious kids to school.”. It is often the case that children of parents who suffer from anxiety interpret situations as stressful to higher degree simply through the adoption of actions they see from their parents. To curb these behaviors in children it is important for a parent to model a composed, calm demeanor while helping their child get ready for the school day.

If you find that your child has begun to develop behavioral issues, be sure to consult any resources you can to buttress your parenting. Not only is it great to have an extra set of ears for your child, but it helps to have professionals that are able to gage whether it is, in fact, a mental health issue, or simply an age-appropriate problem. Get to know your child’s teacher, or teachers.

Teachers are great assets because other than you and your loved ones, the teacher is the adult who spends the most time with your child throughout the day. They are good leads find out peer problems, and the number one source to find out how and why there is any academic floundering. Not only that, if your child is acting out in class, the teacher will be the initial responder to any troubled behavior.

Use Resources

Whether it is a teacher, a mental health professional, or the school counselor, it will always benefit you and your child to use resources. After all, it takes a village.
