WHAT IS Teen mental health services?

Providing Top-Notch Mental Health Treatment Services To The Long Beach Community

Teen mental health treatment focuses on managing the mental health issues that adolescents face. This period of life can be challenging due to various physical, emotional, social, and academic changes.

Teens might deal with issues like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and more. The goal of treatment is not just to address the symptoms but to support the overall well-being and development of the young person.

Therapy

Individual therapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT), group therapy, and family therapy are common approaches. These therapies enable teens to understand their feelings, develop coping strategies, improve communication skills, and resolve conflicts.

Medication

In some cases, medication may be prescribed to manage symptoms of mental health issues, such as antidepressants for depression or anxiety, and stimulant medications for ADHD.

Supportive Services

Educational support, peer support groups, and other community services can provide additional layers of support to help teens address their challenges.

Common Questions that our customers ask

Who do you treat?

The Roots Teen program is specifically designed to treat adolescents and teenagers (ages 13-18) and the issues that are unique to them. We also have a young adult and adult program for clients ages 18 and up.

How do I know which treatment is best for my teenager?

If you suspect that your teenager is facing challenges with mental health or substance use, reaching out to us is a good first step. Our admissions specialists can evaluate your child's needs and assist you in finding the most suitable treatment path, whether it's with our program or elsewhere. Plus, this initial assessment is completely free!

Can we visit Roots before choosing your program?

Definitely! We highly recommend visiting Roots to get a firsthand look at our facility and meet our team before making any treatment decisions. Experiencing our program in person is the best way to understand what we offer, and we're confident that both you and your teen will feel positive about choosing us once you see what we're all about.

What is the average length of stay of your clients?

The average duration of stay in our program exceeds that of similar programs, typically three times longer. This extended period is essential because behavioral health disorders often have deep-seated causes that require time to fully identify and address. Our treatment methods, particularly those aimed at resolving trauma, need a longer engagement to be effective. It's this commitment to a more extended stay that contributes to our remarkable treatment success.

What kind of treatment do you offer that helps with trauma?

We address trauma through different approaches. All our clinicians are trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is offered during individual therapy sessions. Additionally, we run trauma-focused groups that assist teens in recognizing and working through their trauma, addressing both the mental and physical manifestations of their experiences.

What are your staff credentials?

Our team includes experienced therapists, social workers, and drug and alcohol counselors, all with advanced degrees. They are either licensed or close to getting their license. Our program is led by a licensed psychologist and a medical director who is an expert in addiction medicine, both highly skilled in their fields.

What is your cellphone policy?

We don't allow phone use during individual or group therapy sessions, but your teen is welcome to bring their phone. An important part of our treatment involves guiding your teen on how to use technology and social media responsibly.
